Remuneration package:  $123,431-$142,815 per annum inclusive of 9.5% superannuation


The City of Fremantle is recruiting for a suitably experienced, creative and motivated individual to lead the artistic program and operations at Fremantle Arts Centre.  The Arts Centre is a multi-genre arts centre providing great cultural experiences that bring people together.

The position reports to the Manager, Arts and Culture and will require you to demonstrate your strategic thinking, contemporary arts experience, originality and sound business acumen.  You will be responsible for the management of Fremantle Arts Centre’s strategic planning, creative and cultural initiatives, business development, financial management, engagement strategies and for emboldening the community and artists. 

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • High-level strategic planning for the Fremantle Arts Centre.
  • Develop artistic excellence and integrity across all programs, provide diverse and ambitious artistic programming, innovate and experiment and create new programming streams.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships internally and externally including Government and non-Government, artists, artistic program partners, stakeholders and communities.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory and local government requirements including all aspects of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries Head Agreement.
  • Develop reciprocal partnerships and build industry networks.
  • Manage and review budgets, development of new income streams and development opportunities.
  • Ensure that resources including human, financial and physical assets are forecast, prioritised and effectively deployed to meet the needs of the organisation.
  • Maximises usage and public patronage of Fremantle Arts Centre.

Ideally you will be tertiary qualified and have extensive knowledge and understanding of the creative sector.  You will need to be an effective communicator and networker and be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of arts management in a public sector environment.  You will also require high level strategic business management and business development skills and be able to demonstrate your ability to successfully network, partner, advocate and develop the creative sector.
