Scam Alert! Fake request for proforma from Victoria University!

Gareth Kays of GK Productions Australia down in Tas has alerted us to this fake request for proforma that appears to come from Victoria University. The sender is ‘purchasing@victoriauniversity.org‘ as opposed to an .edu.au domain.

“Dear Sales,
Please provide us a proforma invoice, quoting your best prices per
item below for our institute:
QTY: 40 Each
(1) Hanna Instruments HI HI9813-5N Waterproof pH/EC/TDS Meter,
(2) Hanna Instruments HI 9813-6N Waterproof pH/EC/TDS Temperature
(3) Hanna Instruments HI 98130 Waterproof pH/Conductivity/TDS Tester
(4) shure Blx 228/pg58
(5) shure sm 58 LC wired microphone
(6) midas M32 DIGITAL MIXING CONSOLE with ATC, High Range

We would appreciate receiving your quotation as soon as possible by
email by close of business. Fax submissions are not acceptable for
this RFQ.
Your quotation must be valid for at least 30 days. Your quotation will
be reviewed by our financial duties and regulations as well as the
considerations contained herein.
Our institutional payment terms are Net 30 days from the date of your
invoice “with our official institutional purchase order” (or similar
discounted payment terms if offered by your company) upon satisfactory
delivery of merchandise and acceptance thereof by (VUHQ).
Please clearly specify in your quotation if our payment term is acceptable. Await to your swift response.

This has been confirmed as totally bogus by Victoria University, and both NAS and Jands have been informed. Next stop, The Feds. The scam seems to be to get a company to send them the goods and then vanish, or possibly to extract some kind of ‘admin fee’ or ‘transport cost’ from the victim. Beware!!!
