The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Technical Director to lead the audiovisual and broadcast operations across our expanding portfolio of content and events. This is a unique opportunity to shape the technical vision and execution of our in-house production capabilities while delivering world-class experiences at our global and nationwide conferences.
Based primarily at our Bridge Street studio in Sydney CBD, this role requires travel to support all 4 global conferences and 12 Australian-based conferences each year (Victoria and NSW locations). Events typically host 120 attendees, with our largest event accommodating up to 300 attendees.
Key Responsibilities
Studio Management
• Manage and oversee Conexus Financial’s in-house video production studio located at Bridge Street, Sydney CBD
• Oversee the podcast studio operations, ensuring optimal functionality and output quality
• Coordinate studio access and usage for both internal teams and external clients
• Maintain, upgrade, and optimize all studio equipment and workflows Event Production
• Plan, organize, and manage the complete audiovisual component for Conexus’s 4 global conferences annually
• Research, plan, procure, manage, store, and deploy all equipment required for the audiovisual production of 12 nationwide conferences each year (located in Victoria and NSW)
• Lead the transition to a completely in-house AV capability for Australian events, developing equipment specifications and procurement strategies to replace current outsourced equipment hire and operation
• Build and maintain an equipment inventory that enables self-sufficient event delivery
• Deliver technical excellence across events ranging from 120 attendees (average) to 300 attendees (largest event)
• Ensure seamless technical delivery across all event formats and scales Team Leadership
• Source, recruit, and manage casual staff and contractors for all conferences and events
• Build and maintain relationships with freelance technical professionals
• Provide direction and oversight to technical crews during live events Content Collaboration
• Work closely with senior executives, content editors, and content managers to refine and produce high-quality content across video, podcast, and live event formats
• Contribute creative and technical input to enhance content production
• Be enthusiastic to learn and stay informed about financial services industry trends to ensure content relevance and technical appropriateness
Technical Planning & Innovation
• Develop and implement technical strategies for content production and event delivery
• Research and recommend new technologies and equipment to enhance production capabilities
• Manage budgets for equipment procurement and event technical services
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and best practices across all technical operations Essential Requirements
• Proven experience in production management and/or live event technical direction
• Strong understanding of audiovisual systems, production workflows, and technologies
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex technical projects from planning through execution
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing casual staff and contractors
• Excellent organizational and project management capabilities
• Genuine interest in financial services content and the ability to engage meaningfully with industry related material
• Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior executives and creative teams
• Availability to travel for all 4 global conferences and 12 Australian-based conferences annually (Victoria and NSW locations; approximately 16 events per year)
• Flexibility to work extended hours during event periods
• Ability to work under pressure and problem-solve in fast-paced, live environments
Desirable Skills (Not Essential)
• Experience in procurement, budgeting, and equipment management
• Hands-on experience operating video cameras, audio equipment, and lighting systems
• Proficiency in video editing and post-production software
• Experience with streaming technologies and platforms
• Background in corporate or media production environments
• Understanding of the institutional investment or wealth management sectors
