Allen & Heath AB168 – Ins and Outs of A&H Mixers

AB168 is a portable audio IO rack for Allen & Heath Qu and GLD digital mixers. Useful in studio and installation the AB168 will find its main application in live performance as a stage box providing a direct connection to the main mixing system.

Featuring 16 mic preamps with Phantom Power and indicators and 8 XLR line outs, AB168 runs on Allen & Heath’s proprietary dSNAKE protocol and complements Allen & Heath’s existing 19” rackmount IO dSNAKE products, the AR2412 and AR0804.

Adding an AB168 to a Qu or GLD system allows the user to position some or all I/O up to 120m from the mixer. The unit connects over a single Cat5 cable to the Qu/GLD mixer or AR2412 AudioRack via an EtherCon port.  A second EtherCon port is provided for daisy-chaining to another AB168 box or connecting to a ME personal mixing system.

As with Allen & Heath’s other dSNAKE products, the AB168 auto updates its firmware to synchronise with the system.

The rack’s rugged design, including rubber bumpers, renders it highly roadworthy and allows it to be placed on the stage floor during performances. It can also be rack mounted for installation purposes.

AB168 is due in Australia during December 2014 and carries an RRP of $2,395.  Allen & Heath is distributed in Australia by Technical Audio Group, 43-53 Bridge Road, STANMORE NSW 2048.  Ph. (02) 9519 0900.
