Show Technology to distribute the award-winning smartPDU Power Distribution System

Power and power distribution equipment may not be as glamorous as bright, coloured effects lighting but it is the essential and critical foundation for all the technology used in the rental and staging industry.

With this in mind, Show Technology is pleased to announce that they have been appointed distributor for Swedish-based StageSmarts AB’s smartPDU intelligent power distribution system, which received a PLASA Award for Innovation in 2017.

“We are very excited to add StageSmarts to our family of premium lighting and video solutions,” commented Emmanuel Ziino, Managing Director of Show Technology. “As the PLASA Award team of industry experts said, it’s a simple time and space-saving power distribution solution that will be welcomed by many rental companies.”

The smartPDU provides comprehensive real-time load monitoring from any location, of each individual circuit – either via status indicators on the unit itself, or remotely via any device with a web browser. Users can therefore identify a potential problem before the circuit breaker trips. Safety features include individual RCDs fitted to all outputs, to maximise electrical safety whilst also minimising the impact of any electrical fault. In addition, loss of neutral protection prevents costly damage to connected loads caused by over-voltages.

“We developed the smartPDU because we believe that given the size, complexity and value of today’s show entertainment technology systems, a ‘fuse-box in a flightcase’ just doesn’t cut it anymore,” explained Mats Karlsson, Director at StageSmarts. “There’s been an overwhelmingly positive response from customers, who like its mix of easy to change connectors, real-time data monitoring and other valuable safety features that have been missing until now.”

Other features include rugged industrial-grade magnetic circuit breakers for reliable operation, even in the hottest weather conditions. An ‘off-the-shelf’ standard design available in 36, 48 and 72 channel versions, which can be configured for a wide range of applications and connector preferences thanks to its easily swappable output modules.

“StageSmarts saw the need for a much overdue improvement in intelligent power distribution especially for today’s large and highly complex lighting, audio and video systems,” added Harold Hassapis, General Manager at Show Technology. “When it comes to serving and protecting, keeping your equipment and people safe, Show Technology will only recommend the best – StageSmarts.”
