CX Roadshow: Road tales

Grant Everleigh is our ATS driver, in the new Kenworth dedicated to Terry Turner. Terry passed away suddenly several summers ago, he was a founder of ATS. The semi has been to Perth, and on the way to Adelaide Grant told me a strange outback tale.

He noticed a group of camels asleep ahead, so he decided to stop for a photo and to stretch his legs. It was dusk. But as he approachd, he realised they were dead. Six of them. With heavy ordinance wounds.

That night he had to slow down to 70km for a few hours. There were more dead camels, and some of the surviving Bull camels were wandering close by, on the highway.

At Ceduna he asked the roadhouse guy whether there had been a ranger cull.

“Na mate, someone is out there with a 50mm weapon. The cops are freaked out”.

There are strange things that happen in the outback. This is just one of them.

On another subject, one of our exhibitors (Harley from Meyer) was telling me his lovely wife is a wedding planner. At bridal expo’s, which are usually only attended by women with their mums, it appears a solid proportion of them are planning for a wedding – without yet having a proposal, let alone a man! Take that one as a random factoid.

Final note is the amazingly high standards we are enjoying from our loader agencies. Gone are the bad old days, now we’re getting emails with names and numbers, and guys turning up ready, willing and very able at 7am. No problems last year, or this year – so far.
