Dear People, I first met Swampy (Wayne Jarvis) when I was playing drums in the ‘Wild Cherries” in Melbourne and worked with him many times as he was so good at keeping everyone together. The thing that made Swamps stand out from the other guys was his incredible energy and from 1968 to the LWTTT Tour, he was the same person, even though he had worked with Frank Sinatra and all the big guns of the Entertainment Industry, Swampy never changed as he was a really beautiful human being. He never let anything go to his head.
Dear People,
I first met Swampy (Wayne Jarvis) when I was playing drums in the ‘Wild Cherries” in Melbourne and worked with him many times as he was so good at keeping everyone together.
What was a terrible disappointment for Wayne (swampy) Jarvis is a call he received when we were on the LWTTT bus for Newcastle from Sydney.
We usually sat together on the bus to the gigs and talk about the 60’s and 70’s in Melbourne and Sydney. I would count how many times his mobile phone would ring from Sydney to Newcastle that night it went 45 times.
I couldn’t believe it. He said “oh it is pretty quiet tonight”. We would talk about Barry (big goose ) Sullivan
Australia’s best bass player and the Rhythm section from Chain, which I (lil goose) Played drums with Big Goose.
Swampy had just signed a contract for the Tour Manager Job for the ‘Riverdance” show which was a pretty long tour. His favourite Artist of all time was Bruce Springsteen and he always wanted to Tour Manage him and his band. That night on the bus out of the 45 times his mobile phone rang about call no. 32 was an Offer to Be the Tour Manager for the Bruce Springsteen tour and the Bob Dylan Tour.
He turned to me and said “Goose I had the Springsteen tour and Dylan tour”, “but I have already committed to the bloody ‘Riverdance” gig. What a piss off.”””
When we got to Brisbane on the LWTTT tour I had a fabulous Video of Bruce Springsteen and the E street Band recording in the studio. I gave it to him as a present, after a couple more weeks of the LWTTT gigs I never saw him again.
What a LOSS TO OZ MUSIC, as it was very hard to find a Roadmanager who was tough and could handle any situation at any gig and on the other hand was this guy who was the most gentle and kind human being I ever knew. Regards, Barry (lil goose) Harvey (CHAIN).
