ULA lights up the Eiffel Tower

The icon of Park Road, Milton in Brisbane – The authentic replica of the famous Eiffel Tower landmark – has just undergone a $60,000 renovation, which resulted in a spectacular hourly light show every night, similar to the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

The Eiffel Tower in Park Road was built just before the commencement of World Expo 88 to celebrate Paris’ and Brisbane’s link as Expo cities. In light of Savoir Faire’s 25th Birthday and 25 years since Expo 88, it was just the right time to renovate and re-launch Brisbane’s iconic Eiffel Tower.

Savoir Faire have engaged local ‘luminary’ Heath Williamson from Firefly lighting, to create the new lighting design for their icon. Heath comments: “I’m a Brisbane boy and I couldn’t wait to give a bit of love to the Eiffel Tower on Park Road. I had a clear vision – plenty of colourful variations and exciting hourly lighting displays just like the real thing.”

Heath, working closely with Blair Terrace from ULA Group, specified and installed more than a dozen Litecraft LEDSource 14TC fixtures as core lights to illuminate the tower’s structure. An additional 4 Visio Building Washes 14 –10FC fixtures were placed around the base of the tower. The lighting control is managed via Ecue Lighting Control systems.

The official ‘Switching of the Lights’ ceremony was held under the Eiffel Tower at La Dolce Vita in late July, with Lord Mayor Graham Quirk doing the honours. The live entertainment included authentic French cooking displays, Can-Can demonstrations, French Champagne tasting, French degustations, live music, fashion parades, art exhibitions, roving performers and market stalls.
